Hill, Sterling Obituary

Sterling Joseph Hill was born on August 27, 1927 in Washington, DC. He was the second child born to the late Audrey Harris and Manson Hill.

Sterling received his early education in DC Public Schools, graduating from Dunbar High School in 1945. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Army where he served for 2 years. Upon his departure from the Army, he worked at various government agencies including Walter Reed Army Medical Center and retiring from The Office of Enforcement Compliance Monitoring as a contractor for the DC Government.

Sterling accepted Christ as his Savior and joined Zion Baptist Church in Washington, DC where he served as a faithful member for 31 years.

Sterling was a proud Washingtonian who loved the Washington Redskins and his family. He was known as a sharp dresser. However, he would quickly throw on a pair of slacks, brim hat and his favorite fish-head Adidas. Sterling was the epitome of a family man; his love for his children, especially his grandchildren was unconditional. He was someone who was always there when you needed him and very rarely asked for anything in return. Although he wasn't a man of many words, Sterling's love and dedication was never questioned by those who loved him.

Sterling departed this life on Friday December 12, 2014 at Washington Adventist Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents: Audrey Harris and Manson Hill; his wife: Grace Hill; daughter Damaris Hill; sons: Jarrett Hill and Sterling Hill, Jr.; sisters: Antoinette Johnson and Brenda Marshall; brothers: Gilbert Hill and Conrad Hill.

Sterling leaves to cherish his memory his sister: Sharon Boatwright; children: Patricia Hill, Michael Hill, Warren Taylor, Walter Hill and Jeffrey Hill; grandchildren: Lashone Giles, Katrina Smallwood, Sakinah Pitts, Derek Augustus, Michael Pitts, Alexis Kelly, Sterling Hill, Jerome Hill, Michael Claggett, Warren Taylor, Jr., Chavez Taylor, Robert Anderson, Jr., and Armeda Anderson; great grandchildren: Antonio Pitts, Teaira Leak, Aniya Giles, Tyrell Hill, Ahkeem Hill, Linwood Robinson V, Kaiden Kelly, Jarrett Hill, Jr., Tabryna and Tariq Taylor; great great grandson: Jaden Battle; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
