Mr. Donald Seabrook Battle (60), aka “Bopete” and “Big Daddy” transitioned from this world into eternal peace on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Mt. Vernon Hospital. Donald was born on March 11, 1952, in Nash County, to the late Rosa Annie and Junius Battle. He is the second youngest of eight children. He was preceded in death by one sister, Jean Carolyn and one brother, Charles Russell.

Donald was reared in Nash County, North Carolina in a close-knit family. He attended Swift Creek High School in Nash County and later moved to Washington, DC where he was employed with Capital Printing Ink Company. He was extremely gifted at working with computers and subsequently attended TESST Electronics & Computer Institute. Donald worked many years as a Federal Employee with the Department of Treasury (BAE Systems) as a computer information analyst. While there he displayed exceptional customer service skills. His most recent employer was BLUEWATER Solutions, Inc. affiliated with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Donald’s superior performance as a Senior IT Analyst, his sincere efforts and warm personality earned him a certificate of appreciation from the Assistant Secretary for Infrastructure Protection of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.  His adroit handling of PSA personnel and VIPs and his diligent performance in handling rush jobs challenged his wide-ranging acumen and skills.

He joined Roberts Memorial United Methodist Church on October 27, 1985 under the leadership of Reverend Charles H. Roberts. He became a devoted disciple and was an active member of the United Methodist Men. He also sang in the Men’s Choir and helped with many projects around the church. In addition, he assisted with youth activities and was a member of the RMUMC bowling team.

Donald was a Scout Master for his son’s Boy Scouts troop. He enjoyed working with young people and teaching them life skills.  He always attended school sports events while his wife, Leola was the Cheerleader Coach. He was an avid sports fan.

Donald had a passion for listening to and mixing music for friends for various events.  His second passion was cooking. His signature meals were his delicious pasta seafood salad, chicken salad, his fabulous salmon cakes and his many soups. He was an active member of the Departmental Progressive Club and served on the Entertainment Committee and other various committees.

In 1983, Donald united in holy matrimony on August 6th, to the former Leola M. Scott of Alexandria, VA, and their union was blessed with one son, Ryan Garnett and his favorite pet companion,”Najee”, where you saw Donald, you saw “Najee”.

 

Donald leaves behind family and friends to cherish his memory- a devoted and loving wife, Leola M. Battle; one son, Ryan; two sisters, Rosamary Avent (Robert), Nash County, NC; Janice King, Beltsville, MD; three brothers, Garfield Battle (Gloria) Mt. Rainier, MD; Sterlin Battle (Rosemary) Nash County NC; Isaac Battle (Loretta) Rocky Mt., NC; one great uncle, two aunts and three God children, Jenne′ Tillman, Alyssa Battle, Kyndal Moore and a host of nieces and nephews, loving relatives and friends.


The viewing and visitation will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at Roberts  Memorial United Methodist Church, 606A South Washington Street, Alexandria, Virginia (map/directions) from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00. The committal will immediately follow in Mt. Comfort Cemetery, Alexandria, Virginia (map/directions).
