Lorraine Lillian Childs

Lorraine Lillian Childs, age 82, received her angel wings at The Washington Home & Community Hospices in Washington, DC, on February 14th, 2012.

Born March 25th, 1929 in Ruther Glen, Virginia to Richard Childs and Nellie Childs. Lorraine attended schools in Caroline County.

Lorraine came to DC in here early 20’s where she held several positions until retiring from Manacare Nursing Home in Hyattsville, MD. While at Manacare she received many awards and accolades.

Lorraine was baptized at an early age but rededicated her life to Christ at Walker Mill Baptist Church in 1999. This seemed to be her calling. Here she thrived and became “Mother Childs” to many and also received the Woman of the Year award for her love and dedication to the church.

Lorraine will be remembered by her family and friends for being loving, caring, supportive, and most of all her love of cooking.

Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents Richard and Nellie Childs, siblings Wilbert, Richard Jr., William and Frank Childs, Alease Beasley and Kate Burrows. She is survived by her sisters Gladys Galloway, Nell Wrenn, brothers Irvin, Emmitt and Vincent Childs, sons Leslie Sr. and David Childs [Rhonda Childs], Roy Morrisey, daughters Maxine Childs, Aldene Stokes, Faye Childs and Cindy Townes,  grandchildren Dante Clark, Leslie Childs Jr., Joseph Stokes, Chinita Childs [Theo Mitchell], Lorraine Childs, Brandie Childs [Jermaine Boone], Shurada Oyekoya, Letuandia Graham, David Childs Jr., and Kiyanna Kemp, great grandchildren DiJone’, Tijone, Heavyn, Sam, Christian, Blescyn Morgan and Olive and a host of other family and friends.
