John E. Varner

John E. Varner, 69, of Cassville, PA, died at 11:53 AM, Friday, April 27, 2018 at his home.

Born November 25, 1948 in Shirley Twp., Huntingdon Co., PA, he was a son of the late John D. & Esther (Clymans) Varner Mounce. He was united in marriage to the former Shirley Hurst who survives at their home.

He is also survived by one stepson, Todd Hurst of Cassville, PA, five children, Billy Varner of Lancaster, PA, Melissa Sue Booth of Cassville, PA and John H. Varner, Teresa Howe and Cheryl Ceresini, all of Lancaster, PA,  twenty eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He is also survived by nine siblings, Mabel Bookwalter of Huntingdon, PA, Denise Mataruso of Kansas, Greg Varner of James Creek, PA, Sandy Smith of Huntingdon, PA, Ron Varner of Palmyra, PA, Randy Varner of Florida, Peggy Shutt of New York, Lulella Varner McGarity of Waynesboro, PA and Isabella Varner of Shippensburg, PA and a number of nieces and nephews. One brother, Clem Varner and one sister, Lela Bigelow, preceded in death.

Mr. Varner was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the Trough Creek Valley Sportsman’s Club, the AMVETS, the Ephrata Area Vietnam Veterans Association and a life member of the V. F. W. , Ephrata, PA. 

He retired from the Ephrata Manufacturing Co. During his life he was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Mr. Varner was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the U. S. Army.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the Robert I. McClain Funeral Home, 245 Seminary St., Cassville, PA with Pastor Todd Christine officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
