Robert J. Lafferty, Sr.

Bob is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Grace Lafferty, and his two children Barbara Ann (Dan) April and Robert J. Lafferty, Jr. He was a loving father and brother.
He was raised in Philadelphia and entered the US Navy at age 18 in 1964 in which he became a Machinist Mate E2. He went on numerous tours of duty overseas on The U.S.S. Beary and The John F. Kennedy. He was stationed in Italy, Scotland and Norfolk, VA. He was at sea for 15 nine-month deployments. He was promoted to inspector of naval sea vessels in the ComNavAirLant department in 1984. He retired in 1987 at the highest enlisted rank of E-9 Master Chief. He was consistently recognized for safety, value, training, leadership and upholding the naval standard to the highest level. He had excellent rapport with his superiors and his subordinates alike; you could always rely on “Chief Lafferty”. He took great pride in his military service. He served for 23 years with many high honors.
Bob completed his Bachelor’s degree in Engineering while at sea. He returned home to civilian life as a hospital facilitator and had distinguished career at ServiceMaster and Morris & Crothal. He completed his Master’s degree in Management in 1997.
Bob was an excellent model ship builder and a master craftsman. He created beautiful works of art for 16th through 19th century sailing ships of Europe. He loved to ride his Harley. He was an avid student, loved to read history and science fiction. He will be remembered for his deep sense of integrity and superb story-telling.
