John Evans, III

John Wesley Evans, III, of Front Royal, Virginia, died of a stroke on Thursday, August 30, 2012, in the MCV Hospital in Richmond, Virginia.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Front Royal Presbyterian Church (map/directions) conducted by The Rev. Dr. C. Thomas Rhyne and The Rev. Rachel Crumley. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Front Royal (map/directions).
Mr. Evans was born October 24, 1926, in Baltimore, Maryland, son of the late John W. Evans, Jr. and Hilda Hurst Evans. He was a graduate of Highland Park High School in Highland Park, New Jersey and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He graduated from General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan and worked at Hoffman Chevrolet & Cadillac in Hagerstown, Maryland for 27 years. He moved to Front Royal and founded Jack Evans Chevrolet & Cadillac, Inc. He served as First Vice-President of the Front Royal Chamber of Commerce in 1977, served on the Board of Trustees of Warren Memorial Hospital from 1978 to 1981, and served on the Board of Deacons of the Front Royal Presbyterian Church. He founded Courtesy Chrysler Plymouth Dodge, Inc. in 1984.
Jack was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and had great affection for his employees both past and present.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years Yvonne Hedges Evans; a son John W. Evans, IV of Front Royal; a daughter Patricia Evans Sellers of Chesapeake and her husband Alben Sellers, Jr.; a sister Doris Evans Woodall of Solomons, Maryland and her husband Dick; five grandchildren Ian Evans and Mia Evans and their mother; and A. J. Sellers, III, Wesley Sellers, and Katie Sellers. He was preceded in death by a grandson John Wesley Evans, V.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal (map/directions).
