Alexander Dunsmuir, age 86, of Harrison entered into eternal rest on March 12, 2013.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend services at The Armitage and Wiggins Funeral Home 596 Belgrove Drive Kearny (map/directions), on Wednesday from 7-9 and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral will take place on Friday March 15 at 10 am in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover (map/directions).
Alexander was born on June 20, 1926 in Plains, PA to the late David and Annie Dunsmuir who immigrated to the United States from Glasgow, Scotland. He was a distinguished U.S. Navy veteran who proudly served our country during World War II (Invasion of France), earning The American and European Theatre and Victory Medals. He was a member of The Lafayette Lodge #27 and Adorniram Lodge #80 of The Free and accepted Masons.
Alexander worked as a highly skilled jeweler for Shiman's/Kremitz and Company for 51 years before retiring in 1997. He lived with his family in Kearny for most of his life before moving to Harrison, N.J. in 1992. He was a loving, dedicated family man who embraced his Scottish heritage and took great pride in being an American.
Alexander is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary A. Dunsmuir (nee Bannon), his three children and their spouses, Cynthia A. Dunsmuir-La Grace, Wendy M. Dunsmuir-Domac and her husband David, Douglas S. Dunsmuir and his wife Lillian, his six grandchildren Kelly A.Balk-Rodriguez, Kimberly M. Balk, Jason S. Dunsmuir, John C. La Grace III, Brittany L. Dunsmuir and Alexander B. Domac, his two great grandchildren Farrah Anna Belle and Riley Austin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, David and John Dunsmuir and two sisters, infant Lily and Theresa Peill.
He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and friends.
