Janice Elizabeth Gushee

Janice "Jay" Elizabeth Gushee, 81, of Front Royal, died Friday, August 29, 2014 at Lynn Care Center in Front Royal.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Front Royal conducted by The Rev. Jerome Fasano. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Gushee was born August 7, 1933, in Altoona, PA, daughter of the late Martin and Emma Brown Shields. She was a librarian and a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband: David E. Gushee; a son: David P. Gushee of Atlanta, GA; three daughters: Alice Prior of Richmond, Janette Gushee Laughlin of Front Royal, and Kathryn L. Gushee of Richmond; a brother: William T. Shields of Mechanicsville, PA; and six grandchildren: Holly Love, David G. Gushee, Marie Gushee, Nicholas Nelson, Adam Nelson and Alex Gushee. She was predeceased by two sisters: Beverly Morrison and Marilyn Loucks.

Pallbearers will be Nick Nelson, Adam Nelson, David Prior, Alex Gushee, David P. Gushee and David G. Gushee.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal.
